During lockdown it would have been easy to settle in and become one with the sofa and television but the ladies of Sheppee were determined to use their time to benefit others and to get some exercise at the same time.
Each lady walked or ran a total of 100km during the month of June raising money for our local rowing clubs youth team whose clubhouse had flooded earlier in the year and is unable to do its usual fund raising regattas. Some of you will remember we did the Dragon boat a couple of times in earlier challenges, this was organised by them and our Operations Director Sam Davie’s daughter is part of the youth section of the club. Based in the centre of York it is a well-known sight to see rowers on the river Ouse.
We have been using our walks/runs to investigate our local areas, we are very lucky to live in this beautiful city with its surrounding countryside. Some have been improving on their running, some taking a bit of me time away from those were locked down with (but love) and others have been spending time with their extended family (socially distancing of course). Qian at RAP even joined in with us from China. Most of us have been working full time and home schooling so have really made the effort to fit this challenge in and we’ve been out come rain or shine. It’s been a mixed bags weather wise, one trip started in beautiful sunshine and halfway round we were sheltering from hail stones the local petrol garage.
We would like to thank everyone who sponsored us for their generosity, our total was an amazing £2,100.00.
