100km in June Challenge

During lockdown it would have been easy to settle in and become one with the sofa and television but the ladies of Sheppee were determined to use their time to benefit others and to get some exercise at the same time.

Each lady walked or ran a total of 100km during the month of June raising money for our local rowing clubs youth team whose clubhouse had flooded earlier in the year and is unable to do its usual fund raising regattas. Some of you will remember we did the Dragon boat a couple of times in earlier challenges, this was organised by them and our Operations Director Sam Davie’s daughter is part of the youth section of the club. Based in the centre of York it is a well-known sight to see rowers on the river Ouse.

We have been using our walks/runs to investigate our local areas, we are very lucky to live in this beautiful city with its surrounding countryside. Some have been improving on their running, some taking a bit of me time away from those were locked down with (but love) and others have been spending time with their extended family (socially distancing of course). Qian at RAP even joined in with us from China. Most of us have been working full time and home schooling so have really made the effort to fit this challenge in and we’ve been out come rain or shine. It’s been a mixed bags weather wise, one trip started in beautiful sunshine and halfway round we were sheltering from hail stones the local petrol garage.

We would like to thank everyone who sponsored us for their generosity, our total was an amazing £2,100.00.

Marathon runners smash target

A huge congratulations to our two teams of runners who amazed everyone including themselves by completing the 26 mile course around our lovely city of York and surrounding villages. They raised an fabulous £2,015.40 for S.N.A.P.S.

Special thanks to Nicky Jagger who stood in last minute for his mum who was stuck overseas.

Running for SNAPS

On the 20th October two teams of six from Sheppee will be taking part in the Yorkshire Marathon Relay Challenge. This is a marathon distance of 26 miles broken into sections.

This year’s chosen charity was suggested by Tara Stephenson our Purchasing Assistant. She would like to support SNAPS – special needs and parents support- a charity that her family has been involved in for a few years now. SNAPS provides leisure support services for children with special needs of all kinds, and their families. The aim is to support the entire family, by enabling the child, along with siblings, parents and other carers to participate in a shared experience of physical activity, fun and conversation in relaxed surroundings, supported by professional and dedicated staff by providing physio, swimming, hydrotherapy and rebound therapy.

Braai Time

S

Sheppee have enjoyed a number of braai over the summer, also known as a BBQ to the none Afrikaans speakers!! This is a chance for staff from all departments to socialise, its all part of our family atmosphere.

Sheppee Social

A group of Sheppee staff took a tour of the local brewery, Brew York. They were shown around the ‘Coppers’ whilst the process was explained and they got to sample a number of ales. This was all topped off with the obligatory trip to an Indian restaurant afterwards.
